YOUR A - Z GUIDE OF WHAT TO DO

This update should contain all the information you need about the performance. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We would greatly appreciate questions NOW rather than in the show week where it gets VERY tricky to please and accommodate everyone.

Attendance at classes
PLEASE ensure that students attend all classes from now until the performance.  As it has been a very bad flu season, classes have been held back by absenteeism and pieces aren’t quite where they should be. Please help your child by getting them to class on time and prepared. We greatly appreciate your assistance with this.

There will be NO CLASSES AT KPG on Saturday 1 November 2008.

Cast – Who is involved
All KPG vocal, musical theatre and dance students are involved and working towards the performance. A programme is attached to this guide, which lists each class’s item/s.

Cast party for all cast
There is no official cast party organized after the performance. The KPG Christmas party acts as the official after show party for drama night and the annual concert. Students, parents, siblings, friends and staff are all invited to this event. As there are a lot of over 18’s involved in the show, KPG takes NO responsibility for cast members throwing or attending any after show events.

On the day of the concert please pack the following items.
–    Hairbrush, hairspray, gel, spare elastics and bobby pins plus some spare safety pins
–    ALL makeup for touchups

–    A non messy snack. No chocolate, no dairy, no lollies. (Think apple slices in a sealed container, or dry snacks like Shapes or Carrot sticks – but no dips please). Any food spillages on costumes will need to be paid for.
–    Appropriate footwear. Ballet shoes or jazz shoes or tap shoes depending on the class. Please check with your teacher if you are unsure.

Content
All material in this performance is suitable for a family audience. Any concerns, please call the office to discuss.

Copyright and video cameras
In compliance with Copyright regulations, we wish to advise that the video or audio taping of the performance or any part thereof is strictly prohibited. We have obtained a copyright license for the performance, which prohibits recording of any kind (except by those who hold a valid copyright license). So please help us to help others within the industry (the artists whose music and materials we are using) by respecting this and leaving the video camera AT HOME!

Costumes
All classes have individual needs and students will be fitted at their Sunday dress rehearsal. All costume, hair and make-up requirements are listed in this newsletter. If you have any questions, please call the office and we will help you. Please ensure that your child’s name is clearly marked on all items.

Drop off and pick at the theatre
For drop-off or handicapped parking enter through Gate 2, High St, turn left at the Io Myers Theatre, then first right, turn left into Union Rd, then first right. Handicapped patrons may park here in designated bays, other vehicles should return and exit via Gate 2 and proceed to the Barker St Parking Station.

Duration of show
The performance will run for a maximum of two and a half hours (including interval).

In the case of an emergency on the day, please call 0412 618 214.  The office will not be open as all staff will be at the theatre.

Extra Crew – Calling students in year eight and above
We are hoping that students in year eight and above who are not in the production will volunteer to be part of our front of house and backstage team. Parents and grandparents are also welcome to apply. If you would like to help, please give your name to Erika at the office or call her on 9966 5013. All tech crew will be trained and given a certificate. Students who do the full day will also be given a reference.

Make-up and hair
Makeup
All students will need to arrive at both the rehearsal day and the concert with their makeup done. All female students will need to wear the following:
–    Foundation (one shade darker than skin tone for stage)
–    Pink or Rose Blush (depending on skin tone)
–    Bright Red Lipstick
–    Brown eye shadow
–    Black eyeliner
–    Black Mascara or fake eyelashes for older students.
Please remember that under the harsh lights of the stage children need to have full makeup, which may look strange whilst sitting in the car but is absolutely necessary.
We don’t want their lovely faces blending into the cyclorama.
All Male students will need to wear the following:
–    Black eyeliner
–    Foundation
–    Brown blush.
Hair
All students will need to arrive at the concert with their hair done. All hair should look like stage hair… that means gel and hairspray, no wispy bits, no bumps and no fringes. Use only black elastic bands and bobby pins the same colour as your child’s hair.
Students in Jazz/Tap combos, Musical Theatre, High School Jazz/Tap/HipHop will need to either wear the two French braids or a low ponytail as hats will be worn as part of their costume.
Hairstyles for this year are:
All ballet classes – a neat bun
All other classes may choose one of the following
–    a high ponytail. (You should be able to see the ponytail on top of the child’s head when looking straight in the mirror) Hair must be straightened if using this hairstyle.
–    two French braids with a part down the middle. (Please make sure hair is braided from the scalp not just in a plat)
–    For short hair only (down to the chin) half up half down.
Hair will need to stay in place for the entire concert and rehearsal. Please make sure hair is secure. If you need explanation on how to do hair properly, please ask at the office.

No visitors back stage PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No visitors will be allowed backstage at anytime. If you wish to leave cast members flowers or best wishes, please leave them with one of the supervisors. Do not try to contact your child as refusal can offend. It is a logistical nightmare - and a safety concern to have strangers around a large group of minors.

Parent helpers
A call to parents who are willing to help on the dress rehearsal or concert day. There are a few ways you can help: Look after and dress our younger students on the rehearsal day; Transporting costumes and props to and from the concert; Washing some costumes the week after the concert. If you can help, please let the office know.

Parking
Enter through Gate 14, Barker St, turn right into Southern Drive. Park in the multi-level parking station. Upon exiting vehicle turn right into Engineering Road, turn left into University Mall. Science Theatre is located on the right side, opposite the Red Centre.
